With me you get an explorer at heart, an Ivy League English major with a masters in mass communication, a fish in the water, a writer. People invariably tell me that I write well. I tend to be a generalist, taking an interest in everything and seeing all sides, and a perfectionist with words.
After college at Columbia University, I became an English teacher before heading to graduate school in communications at the University of Florida. Since then, I have interacted with people from across the world, and I consider myself a global citizen.
As a child, I wanted to be a marine biologist, and I spent so much time in our backyard pool in Ft. Lauderdale that my parents directed me into competitive swimming, which I continue today (hence the name "harperfish"). I still love the ocean, and my writing has gravitated towards science, conservation, and education issues.
In my spare time, I swim and coach, travel mentally (and physically whenever possible), and enjoy my pets. It's a wonderful world.
